The National Capital Authority is replacing footpath lighting throughout Commonwealth Park. The existing pedestrian lighting has passed its useful life and does not meet contemporary lighting standards. The new energy efficient replacement lighting has been designed to improve amenity, safety and maintenance operations within the Park. The lighting forms part of the NCA's broader, ongoing lighting replacement program on National Land.
The lighting replacement works will be completed in three stages. Stage 1 works were completed in mid April. Stage 2 and 3 works include replacement lighting in the eastern half of the Park and are scheduled to conclude in August 2015.
Pathways will generally remain open during the works. Relatively short sections of path may be temporarily closed for short periods in the interest of public safety. Park users should be mindful that there will be a small increase in construction vehicles and activity in the area whilst the works are in progress. Minimal disruption to users of Commonwealth Park during the works is anticipated.
