22 May 2009The National Capital Authority will begin removing woody weeds along the Molonglo River, downstream from the Scrivener Dam wall from Monday. The removal of invasive weeds such as willow, black alders and blackberry will improve Molonglo River water flows through Scrivener Dam in flood events. The clearing is necessary for the uninhibited discharge of water from the dam wall under flood conditions. Weather permitting, the weeds will be removed over a two week period from Monday 25 May. Clearing will begin at the dam wall and continue 200 metres downstream. The work is expected to be conducted during the day, from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. Minimal disruption to the public is anticipated. |
